Shipping quandries

Don’t forget, the contest starts tomorrow!

I’m seriously considering changing my shipping charges, as lately I’ve found that my strand sticks border right on the 100 gram mark, which means that rather than being $1.92 to ship (to the USA) they cost $3.20.  I’m going to have to charge the higher price for all strand sticks (since they are sold in pairs) from now on, I think…it’s very rare that I can get two of even the lightest sticks shipped for under 100 grams.

Hairsticks are very difficult to ship, due to their shape and weight.  I can’t offer shipping discounts on my sticks as ordering an extra stick at the same time almost always nudges the package up to the next price bracket anyway.  Also, it’s safer to send them separately…crowding your package with items can get them crushed.   I can offer a discount is someone orders 4 single sticks, if they are light ones, and that is about the only number that can be discounted.  Even then, they have to be sticks of the lightest category only.  Crazy that it’s so complicated, isn’t it?  Otherwise you’d have to be ordering about 6+ hairsticks at a time (of any weight) to receive a flat rate with any extras being free.

Well, I’ll create a new shipping profile to take into account the greater expense of shipping a paired set, but otherwise I am leaving it.  I send all items separately in any case (for safety reasons, as said)  so I never charge even a penny more than the shipping actually costs.  Other than that I’ll just have refund extra shipping on the rare occasion that the total actually comes to less than was charged.  So far I’ve actually absorbed greater costs than were charged twice…charging more has never happened.

Why does Canada Post have to be so much more expensive than the prices charged by the US postal service?  Hmph.

No pictures today!  Probably a picture tomorrow, though, I did a new ’super-natural’ stick with a tiny dangle and am thinking of doing more tiny-dangle sticks as well.
