Fire-polished glass, or tumbled unakite?
I made a pair of pink opal topper sticks today, which got me thinking about how many people prefer stone to glass or vice-versa. Glass is clearer and tends to be more vibrant and shine brighter…but stone has a sense of real value, and seems more organic (even though glass IS organic, in that it is not a man-made substance). The stones may not ACTUALLY be more valuable, in some cases, but they give the impression that they are.
I like the transparency of glass, but there is something more magical about stones, I admit it. Can’t say I have a preference for it, but it is more intriguing. The following pictures all use glass components:

And these are made (at least partially) with stone or other natural materials (African turqoise, amber, shell, fossil, carnelian, misc ‘other’) :
I find them equally attractive in different ways, but I KNOW what I think…it’s everyone else that I wonder about. ![]()

Stone and glass definitely have their own unique appeals. I think stone is more associated with wisdom, sophistication, and tradition (maybe even spirituality) whereas glass sparks ideas of glamour, romance, and youth. Maybe that’s just my psych degree talking.
Does either seem like a clear favorite through your Etsy sales?
