Polymer clay

Fly-by.  Have much to do, today.  But hopefully I will find the time and energy to experiment further with yesterday’s messing-about with polymer clay, and see how the bits I made look in a necklace.  There were glitches, of course…the ivory clay discoloured while baking.  But other than that and a very slight misshaping of the disks, I think it went just fine and must see how they work when it comes to actually making the jewellery.

Does anyone out there in Readerland work with polymer clay?  I expect I could get quite interested in it if I started to see the possibilities, but so far they don’t interest me, as I mostly see people making little figurines and things.

I’ve worked with polymer clay, but not really like you’re talking about. I mostly made little figures, “Finger Gnomes” actually. I did, at first, use it to make some one of a kind jewelry beads with recycled rhinestones embedded in them, but they didn’t go over well on the etsy shop.

The disks I made were very cool but the discolouration of the ivory clay totally ruined all of them. Must try again with darker colours!

Have you ever tried super sculpey? I have had very poor luck with the softer polymer clays, and the color specific ones almost always fail on me; but this super sculpey stuff is pretty damn amazing. When I made my finger gnomes out of it; man, they were indestructible! The only downer, is it’s this strange kind of fleshy color; but I normally end up painting all my stuff anyway.

Yes, Super Sculpey is the first polymer clay I ever tried. It’s a LOT softer than Fimo or those others. I think I’ve also used Sculpey III or something like that…but it is always Sculpey SOMEthing. :)

The grey-brown my clay turned totally ruined it. I had the disks all ringed…black outside, then red, then cream. Pooh.
